The Gulf Breeze Bait and Tackle Pompano Tournament began on February 1, but anglers have until the final day of May to sign up and bring in their catch.

The top prize is a $1,000 gift certificate with the top ten places being awarded along with first and second place prizes for junior and lady anglers.

Entry into the contest is only $20 per person and each angler receives a t-shirt when they enter. You must be entered prior to catching the fish in order to weigh it. Fish may be caught from shore, piers, or by boat.

Currently, Michael NGO is in the lead with a 5.41 pound pompano, followed by Jerry Labakken in second with 4.69, and Richard Lee in third with 4.64.

April is traditionally the month when the most pompano are caught so be sure to enter if you’re going surf fishing. For more info on the tournament go to gbbtonline.com or call (850) 932-6789.
